Good Divorce Week 2025
Resolution’s annual Good Divorce Week, running from 10th – 14th November 2025, champions respectful, constructive approaches to divorce, separation and civil partnership dissolution. This year’s theme is The Year of the Code.
A better way to divorce
Resolution is a group of over 6500 family law professionals who commit to helping families and individuals find constructive ways to resolve family matters.
Their Code of Practice is a set of guiding principles aimed at improving outcomes for families and children post-divorce, including:
- Minimising conflict, avoiding inflammatory language.
- Putting children’s best interests first.
- Acting honestly, with integrity and objectivity.
- Clarifying long-term financial and emotional impacts of decisions.
- Treating clients impartially, with respect and dignity.
By keeping court as a last resort, families are more likely to reach fairer, longer-lasting agreements that support better relationships between co-parents.
Ben Evans, Lead Family Law Solicitor at Co-op Legal Services said: “As a Resolution member and accredited specialist, I’m proud to be part of a community that strives to achieve a better way in achieving a more amicable separation between individuals.” He adds “This year’s Good Divorce Week highlights the code that we apply all year round which is embedded within the ethos of our communications and engagement with others”.
Reducing pressure on the Family Court System
Family courts are stretched. A recent report shows private law cases in 2024 took 41 weeks on average to resolve, up from 26 weeks in 2018.
Delays in resolving family law matters have a profound effect on children, often leaving them feeling anxious and unsettled as they wait longer for stable living arrangements, face possible changes in schools and friendships, and cope with the uncertainty of what comes next.
With demand on family courts high, early legal advice and a low-conflict approach can make all the difference, by helping families avoid unnecessary court escalations and promoting cost-effective, constructive resolutions.
