The Co-op Group are now set to start working together with its Charity Partner the British Red Cross to tackle social isolation and loneliness across Britain.
Huge numbers of Co-op Group staff cast a vote and a clear majority giving their support to the British Red Cross. In total, 80,000 staff and Co-op Members helped to make the decision, far higher than for any previous Charity Partner vote.
At The Co-op, our history of supporting the British Red Cross goes back to 1945 when we raised much needed funds for them from sales of our Co-operative brand tea. The funds raised were used to help vulnerable people both at home and overseas to recover from the aftermath of WW2.
Starting next month, the Co-op Group will be working with British Red Cross to both raise much needed funds and to campaign on the vital issue of social isolation and loneliness, which brings emotional and health problems such as depression and anxiety; and that can affect one in seven people across Britain.
Money raised by the Co-op from its communities across the UK will assist the British Red Cross in providing vital care and support for thousands of isolated and lonely people, helping them reconnect with those communities and bringing them life-changing care in their homes.
