Carol Simpson is the Senior Solicitor within the Medical Negligence Department at Co-op Legal Services and is based in Manchester. She has specialised in medical negligence claims since 2004.

Carol is passionate about her work; she takes a common-sense approach, works extremely hard to achieve the best outcome for her clients and will go that extra mile. She deals sensitively with fatal claims.

She provides a personal touch to clients and explains all legal terms to them in plain English.

She has considerable experience and has represented clients in a wide section of cases including high value cases such as amputations, spinal injuries, and birth injury claims including erbs palsy and cerebral palsy. Carol also represents clients with orthopaedic, paediatric and GP claims.

Carol has been awarded panel accreditation with AvMA (Action against Medical Accidents) for her specialist knowledge in clinical negligence.

Carol is also recognised for her expertise and is recommended in Legal 500 who described her as “an experienced and effective litigator”; she “has experience, attention to detail and tenacity” and “is not daunted by a difficult case”. “a good head of department, dealing with a caseload including difficult and complex matters, and doing so effectively.”

Career history

Carol joined Co-op Legal Services in 2023. At her previous firm, she became Head of Clinical Negligence in 2018 and was made a Partner in 2019. Before working in law, Carol spent 19 years in the NHS, initially as a nurse and predominantly as a midwife. This background gives her an invaluable perspective on the NHS system and medical record analysis. While working in healthcare, Carol knew instinctively that she wanted to act for vulnerable individuals and families affected by Medical Negligence. She has also practised in Legal 500 firms, including Tier 1.
