Car Accident Claim Settled for £35,000 Compensation

By Senior Personal Injury Solicitor Jason Harries
Client Situation
Mr R was involved in a high speed, head on car accident with an elderly driver who had mistakenly driven the wrong way up a dual carriageway.
The car accident tragically resulted in the death of the other driver and Mr R sustained serious injuries, with a ruptured bowel, fractured sternum and concussion. He spent nearly two weeks in hospital and underwent surgery to repair his bowel.
When Mr R returned home from hospital he needed full-time care. This was provided by his wife who took time away from work to care for her husband.
Mr R was unable to return to work for a period of nearly six months. During this time he struggled to come to terms with the physical and psychological effects of the accident. He was left with permanent scars from his injury.
How We Helped
Personal Injury Solicitor, Jason Harries met with Mr R in person and explained the process of making a personal injury claim and the investigation that would need to be conducted by the Police and the Coroner.
We arranged for an early Interim Payment of £5,000 to be paid to Mr R, to ensure that he did not need to return to work until he felt fully ready. We also arranged for psychological therapy treatment to help Mr R to prepare for his return to work.
We arranged for Mr R to be assessed by surgeons and a psychiatrist, in order to assess the effects of the accident and we arranged for representation by a Barrister at the Inquest.
The Outcome
After just over a year from the date of Mr R’s car accident, we submitted all of the necessary evidence to Mr R, along with our advice and recommendations for a compensation settlement figure.
Jason subsequently negotiated a final settlement in the amount of £35,000 compensation which our client was happy to accept. This figure included a sum of money to reflect the time taken off work by his wife to provide him with care at home.
