Probate pricing

The cost of probate depends on various factors, like:

  • the value of your estate when you die
  • the types of things you own (your ‘assets’) and how complicated they are to deal with as part of the probate process

Because these things can change up until your death, we won’t be able to give you a final probate quote. However, we can help you understand how much probate might cost for your estate.

If you want to plan ahead, we can sometimes give a cost estimate based on your current circumstances. You can also look at our probate price examples to understand how much probate might cost for your estate.

Make a will

A clear, up-to-date will makes things easier during probate by clearly setting out your wishes. Without a will, your estate will be shared out according to inheritance laws called the rules of intestacy.

Set up a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)

An LPA lets someone you trust make decisions for you if you can't make them yourself. You can set up one LPA to deal with your finances, and another for important decisions about your care.
