Probate Solicitor, Bristol
Kate Rutherford is a Probate Solicitor based in Bristol having trained and qualified with Co-op Legal Services.
Kate specialises in dealing with more complex Probate cases, often involving high value Estates, foreign assets, businesses and complex intestacies. She advises clients on a range of tax implications arising from Estate administration, in particular Inheritance Tax, Capital Gains Tax and Income Tax.
She has dealt with many unusual Court applications and scenarios, and provides regular support and guidance to colleagues within the department.
Kate prides herself on her professionalism, efficiency and time management. She works hard to form close relationships with her clients, keeping them regularly informed and updated in a way that means they always have a clear understanding of what is happening.
Kate helped a client save around £130,000 in Inheritance Tax liabilities by transferring his late father’s nil-rate band to his mother’s Estate. Following a late instruction there was a very tight deadline of just one month to claim the transfer, but Kate successfully prepared the return, obtained a Grant of Probate and administered the Estate. Kate has dealt with multiple cases where the deceased was in receipt of music and/or performance royalties. She works closely with HMRC’s Valuation Department to agree royalties’ capitalisation calculations for Inheritance Tax purposes.
