Merlene George

Associate Chartered Legal Executive, Bristol

Merlene is an Associate Chartered Legal Executive at Co-op Legal Services, primarily based in Bristol.

Merlene specialises in divorce, financial matters and children matters for married couples and civil partners looking to end their marriage or civil partnership. She also specialises in prenuptial agreements, postnuptial agreements and cohabitation agreements.

Career history

In June 2021, Merlene joined Co-op Legal Services as a Family Law Case Manager and in July 2023, she was promoted to the role of Tier 1 Family Law Case Manager. In November 2023, Merlene was promoted to the role of an Associate Chartered Legal Executive in the Family Law Department.

Prior to joining Co-op Legal Services, Merlene worked as a self-employed County Court Advocate and appeared in over 400 cases, before over 150 judges in England & Wales. Through this, Merlene gained significant advocacy experience and the skill to explain complicated matters of law and procedure clearly to clients.

Merlene also has considerable work experience in Family Law having volunteered with Support Through Court in London and Bristol and having undertaken several voluntary family law work placements. Merlene completed her Bar Professional Training Course at BPP Law School in London. She achieved a 2:1 LLB (Hons) in Law from the University of the West of England, Bristol.

When not working

Having enjoyed boxing for over 15 years, Merlene qualified as a Level 2 England Boxing Coach and volunteers at the gym she boxed at.
