A meeting at your home, or at a location of your choice anywhere in England and Wales

The financial and legal aspects following a loved one's death can be incredibly challenging and this can bring unwanted stress and pressure at a time of great sadness.

At Co-op Legal Services, we understand these pressures and want to do everything we can to make this time easier for you when it comes to the administration of the deceased person's financial and legal affairs.

Our Probate Complete Service includes a free in-home visit with one of our Probate Consultants. This meeting will help you understand the financial position of the deceased person's estate, the legal responsibilities of the executor or administrator and provide practical advice and guidance about the things that need to happen right away. This can include changing the buildings and contents insurance if the property is empty and redirecting the post.

A meeting at your home, or at a location of your choice anywhere in England and Wales, means that you can feel at ease and have access to all the necessary paperwork and information to help you decide what help and support you need.

You do not have to use a Probate Solicitor to administer the estate, you can do this yourself, but our in-home visit can help you to understand the significant levels of detailed administrative, tax and legal work involved in the probate process, and what we can do to relieve you from that burden.

A meeting with one of our friendly and highly experienced Probate Consultants will be booked on a specific date and time, agreed with you in advance. Just call our Probate Advisory team or contact us online for more details.

During the meeting, the Probate Consultant will talk about the probate service we provide and how that compares with a high-street solicitor. Many high-street solicitors and banks are known to charge a percentage of the total value of the estate, usually around up to 6%, plus an hourly rate.

Our model is different because we offer you a fixed fee price, which depends on the estate's value and complexity. The price we quote you at your in-home visit will be the price you pay for our probate service, plus disbursement costs*.

We are confident our fixed fees are very competitive and the service we provide is excellent too. Our customers consistently rate the quality of our legal advice and services as 'excellent'. See our Trustpilot reviews.

Although we have a different pricing model to some solicitors, Co-op Legal Services is authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). This means all our work meets strict quality requirements.

Your Probate Consultant will also discuss what happens when there is a valid Will in place or if your loved one has died intestate (the legal term for dying without a Will). Whether there is a Will or not, probate can still be necessary and the Probate Consultant can help to explain the issues around this.

If you are an executor named in the Will and you want to manage the probate process yourself, the legal and financial responsibilities for the estate lie with you. If you're not comfortable with this, we can help you.

During the in-home visit, your Co-op Probate Consultant may need to scan some documents and send other originals off to your designated Probate Case Manager, who will stay in contact with you throughout the duration of the probate process. You will be given your Probate Case Manager's direct line telephone number and email address, and they will contact you to discuss which contact method you would prefer and how you would like to be updated.

Finally, the cost of using our probate and estate administration service is usually paid from the estate funds, meaning there are no upfront fees to pay.

Please don't feel like you have to struggle through probate. Instead, talk to Co-op Legal Services, the largest provider of probate and estate administration services in England and Wales, trusted to deal with over £1.3 billion in estates annually.

  • In order to carry out our Probate and Estate Management services, we often have to appoint third party organisations to provide specialist services. The costs of these services are disbursements of the estate and will be charged in addition to the fixed fee. All identifiable fees and disbursement costs will be detailed on the written quote that we provide before any work starts.

Once we have provided you with a written quote for the agreed work to be done, that price will not change unless the original information we are given is shown to be incorrect or circumstances change.

Authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority

Estate administration in England and Wales is not a reserved legal activity which means that unregulated providers can offer estate administration services regardless of whether they are insured, experienced or qualified to provide a full service.

Co-op Legal Services is a trading name for Co-operative Legal Services Limited which is authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, giving you peace of mind knowing that your estate administration affairs are being dealt with by a regulated organisation and a brand you know and trust.
