Making Mirror Wills Case Study
07 March 2016
Mr and Mrs S are married with two children, who are both at school. They have both wanted to make a Will for some time but Mr S worked full time and Mrs S worked part time and had to manage the children after school. They had struggled to find the time to get their Wills written as they really didn't want to use up their valuable annual leave from work to make an appointment, on a weekday during office hours, with a legal professional.
How We Helped
Mrs S spotted an advertisement showing that Co-op Legal Services offers its Will writing service over the phone with appointments available from 9am to 8pm during the week. She called Co-op Legal Services and spoke with a Wills Advisor about her needs and requirements for both of their Wills.
Mrs S spoke about the need to name a Guardian for the children as this was one of the driving forces behind making a Will. She also explained that her wishes and husband's wishes were likely to be identical and they wanted to leave each other everything and then, on the second death, for everything to pass to the children equally.
The Wills Advisor explained Mirror Wills to Mrs S who was also pleased to hear that this could all be done in about an hour by booking a phone appointment with one of our experienced Will writers. Mrs S received a fixed fee quote for writing the two Mirror Wills and booked an appointment at 7pm the following week.
The Wills Advisor confirmed that Mr and Mrs S would be sent confirmation of the appointment in writing together with information about making a Will to help prepare for the appointment.
Mr and Mrs S were contacted at the agreed time and they discussed their circumstances with their Will Writer who then took their Will instructions. The draft Mirror Wills were sent to them for consideration within 7 working days.
Mr S had a few queries after receiving the draft Wills so he spoke with their Will Writer who answered his questions. Mrs S realised that she wanted to make a change to the draft Wills to include a gift of her jewellery to her daughter. She spoke to her Will Writer about making this change and it was explained that this was all part of the part of the fixed fee service.
Once the drafts were approved by Mr and Mrs S, they were sent the original Mirror Wills for signing together with signing instructions. They were also pleased to hear that, once their Mirror Wills were signed and returned to us, that our Will writing service includes free lifetime storage of their Wills at no additional cost.
Another advantage of making a Will with Co-op Legal Services is that you can speak with a Will writer as often as you like until your Will is signed, at no additional cost.
Once we have provided you with a written quote for the agreed work to be done, that price will not change.
