The Co-op Group has received an email from Saleh Saeed, the CEO of the Nepal Earthquake Appeal Disasters Emergency Committee that we would like to share with you.
Saleh said, “I wanted to take this opportunity to say, once again, a huge thank you to you, and all Co-op colleagues, customers and Members for responding so positively to our DEC appeal. It is heartening that the Co-op can be relied upon to stand up for people, wherever they may be, at a time of crisis.
Your support has directly raised a total of over £45,000 – a fantastic achievement and one for which we are incredibly grateful”.
Thank you all for your generosity in raising funds for this cause. You will have seen the news reports from Nepal in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake. 8,790 people lost their lives, 22,300 suffered injuries, and almost a third of the population of Nepal was impacted in some way.
As in the past, we wanted to play our part in helping people to cope with the aftermath of the disaster. Funds have gone towards vital activities including distribution of food items, blankets and tarpaulin; medical and first-aid support; as well as water filters providing safe water supplies.
In addition we used some of the money raised through the sale of Fairbourne Springs Water in Co-op Group and Independent Society Food stores. £30,000 went towards helping local organisations in Nepal to get clean water where it was needed most, as fast as possible, and helping to provide long-term solutions to the crisis.
“THANK YOU” Co-op customers, members and staff once again for your generous support.
