This week is Good Divorce Week, an annual event that encourages couples to explore different ways of resolving issues following divorce or separation.
It is hoped this will help people avoid potentially bitter battles in Family Courts, something which can be damaging for the whole family, especially for any children involved.
This is particularly important with Christmas fast approaching, as the festive season is often a difficult time for families going through a divorce or separation.
Now in its fifth year, Good Divorce Week is organised by Resolution, a group of over 6,000 Family Lawyers who want to help people resolve family disputes in a constructive way.
To mark the launch of the Good Divorce Week 2016 awareness campaign, Resolution has revised its Code of Practice which asks members to commit to eight principles.
Amongst other pledges, Resolution members promise to ‘reduce or manage any conflict and confrontation’ and to ‘encourage families to put the best interests of any children first’.
Tracey Moloney, Head of Family Law at Co-op Legal Services said, “The secret to an amicable divorce is to approach it in the right way – keeping the divorce process non-confrontational is likely to lead to longer lasting solutions”.
