Remember a Charity Week
11 September 2017
Today marks the start of Remember a Charity Week 2017, when a group of organisations (including us!) come together to encourage people to leave a legacy to charity in their Will.
The awareness week, which is organised by Remember a Charity, is now in its eighth year – and it’s looking to be the most ambitious campaign to date.
This time round Remember a Charity is going on tour, visiting five cities in five days. After kicking things off in London today, they’ll then travel to Bournemouth, Norwich, Liverpool and Edinburgh.
While in each of these cities, they’ll visit iconic 60s landmarks in an attempt to engage the baby-boomer generation, showing them just how important legacies are to charities across the UK.
And as figures provided by Remember a Charity show, many charities rely on legacies in order to exist. To share just a few examples, gifts in Wills pay for:
- Two out of three guide dogs
- Six out of 10 lifeboat launches
- A third of Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work
- Half the calls to the Lullaby Trust’s bereavement helpline
- A third of the work done by the Royal National Institute of Blind People
This year Remember a Charity would also like you to ‘have your say on the world you want to pass on’. So what’s your vision for future generations? It’s an emotive topic, and you can get involved in the conversation on social media by using the hashtag #HaveYourSay
Leave a Gift to Charity in your Will
If you’re feeling inspired to leave a gift to charity in your Will, we’d be happy to help. You might have a connection with a particular charity – perhaps because it’s helped you or a loved one in the past. Or you might just want to help local and national causes.
Whatever your motivation, you need to ensure your wishes are officially recorded in your Will. If you simply tell your friends and family members that you’d like a donation to be made from your Estate after your death, there’s no guarantee that it will happen.
We can help you make a Will to reflect your wishes, or if you already have a Co-op Will, can talk to you about making amendments.
Call our Will writers for initial advice on 03306069591 or contact us online and we will help you.
Remember a Charity is part of the Institute of Fundraising, a registered charity in England and Wales (no. 1079573) and in Scotland (no. SC038971).
