How Our Probate Advisory Service Works
03 January 2017
When you call our Probate Advisory Service we can help you by providing initial advice and guidance on Probate and the Estate administration process.
Have you been named as Executor in a Will and you’re not sure where to start? Are you dealing with the affairs of someone who died without leaving a Will?
First, we can help you deal with the immediate legal and financial administration that arises when someone passes away. That can include which organisations to inform, how to deal with bank accounts and an empty property, and how to close the deceased’s persons email and online accounts. We can also explain some of the complicated terms that are associated with this time such as Probate, Estate and Asset.
Second, we can help you determine if you’re going to need to apply for Probate, what tasks you’ll need to undertake if you’re an Executor in a Will, or dealing with the estate of someone who died without leaving a Will. We can explain the legal responsibilities involved in dealing with a deceased’s persons property, finances and possessions and when additional issues such as tax returns are involved.
If you do need Probate, we’ll give you information to help you decide how best to proceed in your particular circumstances. You can do Probate yourself, however you should be prepared to spend up to 70 or 100 hours of detailed administrative work, often including calculating and submitting Inheritance Tax and Income Tax returns, and dealing with HMRC, in order to complete the Probate process. It’s also important to note that when you do Probate yourself, you can be held financially liable for any mistakes made.
Co-op Legal Services can take all of the work and responsibility off your hands. With our Probate Complete Service we will arrange an appointment for you to meet with one of our Probate Consultants. They’ll visit you in your home, or another convenient location (in England or Wales), and talk you through the specifics of your situation in detail. At the meeting they’ll also provide you with a no obligation, fixed fee Probate quote.
Once we have provided you with a fixed fee Probate quote, that price will not change unless the original information we are given is shown to be incorrect or circumstances change.
If you are happy to proceed we will assign you a dedicated Probate Case Handler who will work on your behalf. Your Probate Case Handler works with more than 170 dedicated Probate specialists, including expert Probate Solicitors and Lawyers who only deal with Probate.
