Career History

After graduating with BA in Business Studies (2:1) and gaining his CIM (he acquired his MBA in 2009), Ian spent the first 6 years working in marketing and advertising for Royal Liver Assurance and L&G. He then entered the legal sector as a Regional Marketing and BD Manager for DLA, which is now DLA Piper – one of the largest global law firms.

Ian left DLA after 2 years and joined Irwin Mitchell as its Business Development & Communications Director. Ian held this position for just under 15 years during which time the business grew from just over £34m to over £200m. During this time at IM, Ian was named as City/National business development/marketing director of the Year (2007) at the Legal Marketing Award and runner-up in the subsequent year. In 2014 he was shortlisted in the CIM Marketing Excellent Awards.

Ian joined Co-op Legal Services in November 2014 as its Marketing & Business Development Director with responsibility for its Marketing, product proposition, business development and e-commerce. As part of the new executive team, Ian’s aim is to grow the business, based on the principles of the wider Co-op Group of openness, honesty and integrity, into one of the leading consumer law firms in the UK.

When Not Working

Ian says, “I spend my spare time doing many of the normal things in life, principally spending time with my family and friends. Having a 7 year old son, I have recently rediscovered many sports that I thought I would never do again or spending weekends as a taxi driver, jumping from one event to another."

“Any additional time is spent either knocking holes in our current home (we are in the process of renovating), entertaining or relaxing with a good book.”
